Why I built Hadafi

Where did all my money go?

Assalamu alaikum,

I always thought I knew my money: what I earned, what I spent, and what was left at the end of the month. But as payday came closer, I had saved less than I thought. So where did it all go?

When I was younger, with fewer responsibilities, I tried everything to make money fast. Penny stocks. The GameStop boom, where I bought a meme stock I had checked was halal. NFTs. Crypto. Most of the time, I lost.

So I started teaching myself. Savings and an emergency fund. How investing works, and why many people choose simple, low-cost funds. Why a car loses value while a home can gain it. It took me years of videos and articles, pulling in different directions, to piece it together.

Then one evening, aged 30, I watched my friends in a WhatsApp group:

What should I invest in?

Should I overpay my mortgage or invest?

ISWD or ISUS?

I put £1,000 into a property company that pays 8% a year.

That's when it clicked. So many Muslim friends and family were where I had been: living month to month, chasing quick wins, unsure where to start. Hadafi was born so we can plan our money together, the halal way, in minutes rather than hours of videos.
